For the full itinerary and logistical information on the Rhode Island Coast Cycling Trip, please contact us and we will be pleased to email it to you.
Day 1 After transfers from the airport or train station, embark from Point Judith on the Rhode Island coast on the early afternoon ferry to Block Island. Enjoy refreshments and ocean views at our hilltop inn while your guides fit your bike. Shake out the sea legs on the first island ride in a setting the Nature Conservancy termed one of the “Last Great Places.” Later, enjoy tapas, cocktails and views from the veranda at our island retreat before heading to Great Salt Pond for a wonderful sunset sail aboard a custom trimaran. Relax, enjoy wine and cheese, and let the cares of the world slip away. After, enjoy dinner at a top Block Island restaurant.
Biking Mileage: 10
Day 2 After breakfast at the inn, bike a coastal route passing wide beaches and salt-water ponds. Walk trails in the Block Island National Wildlife Refuge at the tip of the island. View Block Island Sound, miles of beaches, tranquil moors, vegetated dunes and in season, hundreds of seagull chicks in nests atop the dunes. Walk sand trails to the North Light, a scenic lighthouse beloved by photographers and admired by all. Next, pedal through idyllic island landscapes to New Harbor for lunch and after, an eco-kayak adventure. Paddle through a salt-water bay and estuaries, observing and learning about the many plants and animals that make this eco-system their home. Landlubbers may enjoy additional cycling, a walk along the bluffs, a lounge on the beach or a little shopping in town. Enjoy fresh seafood and more at tonight’s fine restaurant.
Biking Mileage: 11 with options for more
Day 3 Following breakfast, ride to Southeast Lighthouse and the majestic Mohegan Bluffs. Tour the lighthouse and museum or find the perfect shell on the secluded beach at the base of the bluffs. Pedal to Old Harbor and enjoy lunch on the ferry back to the mainland. Then, bike from Point Judith along the Rhode Island coast through the resort community of Narragansett with its wide sandy beaches and impressive mansions. Next, explore tranquil Conanicut Island, first settled by Native American tribes of Wampanoags and Narragansetts and later by Dutch fur traders. Pedal through sheep and cattle farms, past a classic windmill to a headland featuring the picturesque Beavertail Lighthouse. From the island’s quaint village of Jamestown, hop on the ferry to Newport (summer) keeping an eye out for America’s Cup class boats and motor yachts from all over the world. Arrive at our historic inn in the heart of the Old Quarter, then enjoy dinner together at one of Newport’s fine restaurants. After, embark on a lantern-light walking tour of Newport's waterfront and historic streets. A local historian shares fascinating lore while journeying back in time through 300 years of history.
Biking Mileage: 34 with options for more
Day 4 Bike a spectacular cycling route past commanding yacht clubs, pastoral sheep farms, seaside estates, and rocky headlands as Rhode Island's past and present combine to offer incredible vistas along Ocean Avenue. Arrive at the world-renowned Breakers mansion and enjoy a tour of the mansion interior and grounds. After, walk a section of the famous oceanside Cliff Walk before returning to the inn to shower and check out. Transfer by van back to the vehicle lot, the train station or TF Green Airport. Without doubt, it will be hard to say goodbye to the inspiring sights offered by Rhode Island’s stunning coast and idyllic isles.
