Sherborn, MA, July 10, 2012 – A team from US bike tour and adventure vacation company, Great Freedom Adventures, raised about $12,000 for the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA) by completing a 50-mile race in the Adirondack Mountains of New York on June 24th. The team joined 70 cyclists from across the country to participate in CCFA’s Team Challenge to raise funds for research and awareness of Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, two serious digestive diseases. Great Freedom Adventures is continuing the momentum toward health by offering savings of $150 to $250 per person on bike tours and active vacations to patients and families affected by these diseases.

Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis are chronic, painful and often debilitating digestive disorders for which there is no cure. Patients struggle with fatigue, joint pain, abdominal cramps, and painful intestinal blockages. Surgery is often required. About 1.5 million American adults and children suffer daily with these diseases.

Team Great Freedom Adventures competed alongside roughly 350 cyclists on a hilly course in the Adirondacks around Lake George. The exciting event, produced by Centurion Cycling, took place under blue skies with helicopter filming and spectators cheering. CCFA riders were there in force and together raised over $380,000 for Crohn’s and colitis research.

“What an inspiring experience this CCFA bike fundraiser was! This was a seriously challenging 50 miles but the support, encouragement and smiles of my teammates made it fun. I’m so glad to have been a part of this extraordinary event and so proud of what we accomplished together,” says Great Freedom Adventures team member Maya Donoghue.

In an effort to further awareness of Crohn’s and colitis, to support those affected by the diseases, and to promote a healthy lifestyle, Great Freedom Adventures is offering patients and family members special savings on bike tours and multi-sport adventures. For any 2012 adventure, with sign-up by July 27, 2012, any person with Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis or a family member of someone with either disease, will receive $150 per person off three or four-day tours and $250 off six-day tours.
