Bicyclists Finish Each Day of Scenic Cycling With Thirst Quenching Craft Beer Tasting
Sherborn, MA, March 11, 2014 – The bike tour operator who promotes freedom on two wheels announces the Maritime Bike and Beer Adventure Tour, a six-day exploration of the maritime heritage of the fabled MA North Shore and the locally brewed craft beer inspired by the sea. Modern day explorers on Great Freedom Adventures’ June 15-20 or August 17-22 departure pedal through the culture and lore of the Essex National Heritage Area capping off each day’s adventure with a thirst-quenching visit to a local brewery or a private beer tasting with an expert brewmaster.

The MA North Shore is home to several breweries producing award-winning beers that celebrate the maritime heritage that inspired them. Cape Ann Brewing’s Fisherman’s Beer has a bold flavor and strong character that reflect the spirit and courage of the sailors of the North Atlantic fishing fleet. “Our location directly on Gloucester Harbor allows visitors to sample the various beers while gazing out at America’s oldest working seaport,” says Nick Chapman, General Manager of Cape Ann Brewing.
Guests on the Maritime Bike and Beer Adventure Tour also sample Ipswich Ale, produced by Ipswich Ale Brewing, and named one of the world’s ten best beers by Wine Spectator Magazine. Excellent offerings by Newburyport Brewing Co., Riverwalk Brewing Co., Salem Beer Works, and Notch Brewing Co. are also sampled on the bike and beer adventure.
In between beer-tasting sessions, cyclists visit the area’s must-see historic towns such as Gloucester (of The Perfect Storm fame), Salem (think witch trials and China Trade), Rockport (home to the most photographed building in the country), Newburyport (sea captain’s mansions) Essex (shipbuilding), and Ipswich (unparalled preservation of historic homes), all important towns in America’s maritime heritage.
The six-day, five night tour is priced at $2,450 per person based on double occupancy and includes lodging at upscale inns, most meals, bikes, guides, van support, transfers, luggage transport, a kayak excursion, nature walks, admissions, beer tastings, a mansion tour, daily snacks and drinks, maps and more.
