Bike Tour Self-Guided Along Stunning New England Seacoast

Sherborn, MA, July 9, 2019    Great Freedom Adventures, an expert provider of bike tours, walking trips and active vacations, announces its first self-guided bike tour. The exhilarating 455-mile trek encompasses sensational New England seacoast from Massachusetts to Maine. Over nine days, riders pedal a carefully mapped route from Boston’s North Shore, through New Hampshire, all the way to Bar Harbor Maine. The tour culminates with an early morning pedal to the summit of stunning Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park where riders will be among the first people in the US to see the sunrise.

On the self-guided bike tour, cyclists start on a date of their choosing and Great Freedom Adventures provides maps, cue sheets, area information and booking of accommodations. Riders may use their own bike or one from Great Freedom Adventures’ fleet. “Various levels of support can be provided allowing riders the flexibility to go completely self-guided and self-contained (carrying own gear), self-guided with luggage transfer and van support or fully guided and supported,” says Great Freedom Adventures founder Jeanne Rummel.

Riders experience delightfully diverse landscapes and seascapes throughout the journey. On the coast, cyclists see some of the most iconic lighthouses in the east, explore the country’s oldest working fishing ports, discover quiet cove beaches, view miles-long stretches of sandy beaches and visit picturesque harbors dotted with lobster boats.

Inland, travelers see old stonewalls bordering orchards or horse farms and pass some of the country’s oldest colonial homes. All along the way are charming towns and villages serving as summer playgrounds or delightful year-round hometowns.

Hungry cyclists have their choice of sustenance throughout with the abundance of cafés, clam shacks, bakeries, lobster pounds, pubs, casual eateries and fine restaurants. Several craft breweries await to provide cold refreshment after a day of riding.

Historic sites abound and give a glimpse into the life of early settlers, from the mariners of Cape Ann to the colonists at Strawbery Banke. Artists of all kinds are drawn to the light and the beauty of the region so riders will find galleries containing exceptional art in all mediums.

The Mass to Maine self-guided bike tour destination is Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park, a stunning place where the mountains meet the sea. Acadia is one of the country’s most visited parks and for good reason. There, riders discover soaring granite cliffs, glacier carved lakes, wildflower-filled meadows and forested islands scattered in the sparkling azure waters. Witnessing the rising sun from atop Cadillac Mountain as the rays gradually bathe the islands and hillsides in golden light is a magical experience. It’s a fitting finale for Great Freedom Adventures’ extraordinary Mass to Maine bike tour.
