Salt Marsh & Songbirds MA Eco-Bike Adventure
Songbirds and Spring Blooms
Explore the vast richness of Massachusetts’ Great Salt Marsh and national wildlife refuges on this three day guided eco-bike tour adventure through the Boston, MA North Shore. Discover a destination world famous for nature study, encompassing thousands of acres of salt marsh, one of the most productive ecosystems on the planet. The Spring eco-bike tours are timed to coincide with the return of songbirds to one of the finest bird-watching destinations in the eastern United States and the bloom of colorful native azaleas and rhododendrons.
Shorebirds, Waterfowl and Autumn Foliage
On the three day fall eco-bike tours, view some of the 25,000+ waterfowl, including loons, grebes, and teals. Discover the favorite haunts of the snowy owls and the “haul-out” locations of harbor and grey seals. Watch for great blue and green herons, snowy egrets and glossy ibises among other wading birds, as well as beaver, muskrat and turtles.
Barrier Beaches and Grand Estates
Pedal flat roads on this easy bike tour through a diverse habitat of barrier beaches, dunes, tidal salt marshes, mudflats, salt pannes, and coastal forests. Inland, bicycle alongside old stone walls tracing colonial-era farms, clear ponds, and meandering rivers. Depending on the season, view blossoming orchards and cherry trees or colorful fall foliage, pumpkin fields and ripened apples. Visit the grand Crane Estate, a National Historic Landmark, and stroll the magnificent grounds atop Castle Hill with its stunning views to the Atlantic.

Tour Reviews & Testimonials
“My mother and I went on the 3-day Salt Marsh and Songbirds tour in honor of her 60th birthday. Neither of us had ever been on a bike trip before, and my mother follows a fairly strict low-fat vegan diet. So we weren’t the easiest customers. But the Great Freedom Adventures team blew away our expectations every step of the way. They professionally weathered our barrage of clueless pre-trip questions and did an incredible job of making sure our needs were exactly understood. So when we arrived in Newburyport they were more than prepared with the right equipment for our ability level and pre-arranged special menus at a variety of local eateries that more than met the challenge.
And then there was the trip itself. While each of us has traveled extensively in the US and abroad, neither my mother nor I had ever visited this part of New England. We chose the trip mainly based on how it fit into our busy schedules. But I can’t convey just how wonderful it was. The routes and directions were perfectly planned. The terrain challenged us without overwhelming us (and there was a chase van to pick us up when we did wear out). The scenery was varied and beautiful and completely new to us. And our guides shared a wealth of information about local history and ecology. The accommodations were great, the food was great, and the company was great. What more could we possibly ask?
I cannot recommend Great Freedom Adventures enough, and will definitely be back for another trip in the future.”
